DRACO: A Deduplicating FTL for Tangible Extra Capacity


The speedy random access of SSDs permits efficient looking of redundant knowledge and their deduplication. However, the area earned from deduplication can not be used as permanent storage as a result of it should be reclaimed when deduplication is cancelled as a result of an update to the deduplicated information. To beat this limitation, we have a tendency to propose a completely unique FTL theme that allows the gained capacity to be used as permanent storage space for the file system layer. The proposed approach determines the safe amount of gained capacity which will be provided to the higher layer based mostly on the compression rate prediction scheme. It then secures the specified space by compressing cold data when capability overflow occurs from cancelled deduplication. Our evaluation with a kernel source repository showed that the file system obtained approximately 79 p.c additional capability by the proposed theme.
