Optimal Design of Solar PV Farms With Storage
We tend to take into account the matter of allocating a capital budget to solar panels and storage to maximise the expected revenue in the context of a giant-scale solar farm participating in an energy market. This problem is advanced due to many factors. To begin with, solar energy production is stochastic, with a high peak-to-average ratio, thus the access link is typically provisioned at but peak capability, resulting in the potential waste of energy thanks to curtailment. The utilization of storage prevents power curtailment, however the allocation of capital to storage reduces the quantity of energy made. Moreover, energy storage devices are imperfect. A solar farm owner is therefore faced with 2 issues: one)deciding the level of power commitment and a pair of) the operation of storage to satisfy this commitment. We tend to formulate 2 problems adore 2 totally different power commitment approaches, an optimal one and a sensible one, and show that the two problems are convex, permitting economical solutions. Numerical examples show that our practical power commitment approach is close to optimal and also give several alternative engineering insights.
