Challenges in Distance Bounding

Smartcard-primarily based protocols represent an increasingly giant share of the wireless authentication market, from contactless payments to remote automotive unlocking. Unfortunately, relay attacks create a important threat to these wireless solutions. However, this risk will be mitigated through the utilization of distance-bounding protocols. The authors discuss the core challenges of distance bounding, in terms of both theoretical and practical considerations, that specialize in their security and the difficulties encountered in their style and implementation. The authors gift their vision of the long run of those protocols and of the attainable ways toward their secure deployment.
