Room Temperature Continuous-Wave Operation of Top Metal Grating Distributed Feedback Quantum Cascade Laser at $lambdasim 7.6~mu$


We demonstrate a carefully designed top metal grating distributed feedback quantum cascade laser emitting at $lambdasim 7.6~mu{rm m}$. Room temperature continuous-wave single-mode operation with 30-dB sidemode suppression ratio and 40-mW output power is achieved. Such a simple and high-efficiency approach is presented as an alternative to the currently complicated buried grating technology in the long-wave infrared range.
