PROJECT TITLE :

DAWN: Delay-Aware Wi-Fi Offloading and Network Selection

ABSTRACT:

To accommodate the explosive growth in mobile data traffic, each mobile cellular operators and mobile users are increasingly curious about offloading the traffic from cellular networks to Wi-Fi networks. But, previously proposed offloading schemes mainly target reducing the cellular data usage, without paying too much attention on the quality of service (QoS) needs of the applications. In this paper, we tend to study the Wi-Fi offloading problem with delay-tolerant applications below usage-based pricing. We tend to aim to attain a sensible tradeoff between the user's payment and its QoS characterised by the file transfer deadline. We have a tendency to 1st propose a general Delay- Aware Wi-Fi Offloading and Network Choice (DAWN) algorithm for a general single-user call scenario. We have a tendency to then analytically establish the sufficient conditions, under that the optimal policy exhibits a threshold structure in terms of each the time and file size. So, we tend to propose a monotone DAWN algorithm that approximately solves the general offloading downside, and includes a much lower computational complexity comparing to the optimal algorithm. Simulation results show that each the final and monotone DAWN schemes achieve a high chance of finishing file transfer beneath a stringent deadline, and need very cheap payment below a non-stringent deadline as compared with 3 heuristic schemes.
