State-of-the-art and -practice review of public transport priority strategies

ABSTRACT:

In the years to return, public transport (PT) will be referred to as to play a significant role towards achieving the sustainable transport system objective set for the longer term in Europe and beyond. To the current finish, the standard, accessibility and reliability of its operations ought to be improved. During this context, the favourable treatment of PT means at intervals the road network may have, among others, a vital contribution. Such treatment will be derived as a result of an appropriate design of the road network facilities and/or the utilized signal control at the network junctions. To this end, many approaches are proposed, and it's the aim of this study to review the state-of-the-art and -practice in such approaches, focusing mainly on those attempting to supply priority via applicable adjustment, in real time, of the junctions' signal control.
