56 Gbit/s OOK transmission with 20 GHz electronics by resonating segmented electrode InP Mach–Zehnder modulator

ABSTRACT:

A resonating segmented Mach–Zehnder modulator with peaking transfer function is designed and fabricated in InP. The modulator is able to transmit a 56 Gbit/s on–off keying signal though the driving force is limited to twenty GHz bandwidth. Bit error ratio over dispersion and optical signal-to-noise ratio are measured and show substantial advantage over their non-resonating counterparts.
