Mixed capacitor switching scheme for SAR ADC with highest switching energy efficiency

ABSTRACT:

A high energy-efficiency mixed capacitor switching scheme is proposed for the successive approximation register (SAR) analogue-to-digital converter (ADC). The new switching theme combines a brand new switching method, monotonic switching technique and split-capacitor technique. The new switching technique achieves no switching energy consumption till the fourth comparison, and also the low-power monotonic switching methodology is utilised for the remaining comparisons. Moreover, fewer bit capacitors are required at the same resolution as a result of of the split-capacitor technique. The proposed technique achieves a ninety nine.4percent reduction in switching energy compared with the traditional SAR design.
