Reconfigurable square ring antenna for switchable circular polarisation

ABSTRACT:

A reconfigurable ring antenna for switchable circular polarisation (CP) is presented. The proposed antenna consists of a sq. ring resonator with two gaps, two pin diodes and a sq. ring slot with a link on the ground plane. Relying on the location of the gap (link), the sq. ring (slot) resonator exhibits completely different directions of linear polarisation. By choosing a appropriate gap/link position, 2 orthogonal resonant modes are excited, and good CP is achieved. The pin diodes are positioned in the center of the gap. The state of the gaps will be adjusted by pin diodes' state. Hence, the proposed antenna will radiate with either right-hand CP or left-hand CP.
