Demonstration of electromagnetic cloaking of conducting object by dielectric material cover

ABSTRACT :

The cloaking of electrically thin conducting cylinders is experimentally demonstrated. Rather than using any complicated materials (metamaterials) commonly affiliated with cloaking, the cloaking result is here achieved with a homogeneous dielectric material covering the cloaked metal cylinder. Moreover, the relative dielectric constant of this material is positive and of moderate price, and therefore several standard dielectrics will be used to get the cloaking impact. The proposed technique is experimentally demonstrated by conducting reflection and transmission measurements for an oblong waveguide with cloaked/uncloaked objects inside it.
