A Prototypal Architecture of a IEEE 21451 Network for Smart Grid Applications Based on Power Line Communications

ABSTRACT:

This paper deals with the event of reliable measurement and communication devices and systems and their integration on a prototypal network architecture for good grid applications, based mostly on the employment of narrowband power line communications (PLCs). The proposed resolution is presented and mentioned within the framework of the ISO/IEC/IEEE 21451 family of Standards. Currently, PLCs aren't properly addressed by the aforesaid Standards; on the opposite hand, by together with such issue, their pointers could represent a standard platform for the mixing and interoperability of the proposed systems and devices. This would enable to exploit the advantages of the IEEE 21451 approach conjointly for PLC-based mostly smart grid applications, not solely for the known functions of the good metering, however also for sensing, automation, protection, and management functions and advanced system operation and management.
