A Survey of Software Techniques for Using Non-Volatile Memories for Storage and Main Memory Systems
Non-volatile memory (NVM) devices, like Flash, part change RAM, spin transfer torque RAM, and resistive RAM, supply many advantages and challenges in comparison to traditional memory technologies, such as DRAM and magnetic hard disk drives (HDDs). In this paper, we tend to present a survey of software techniques that are proposed to take advantage of the advantages and mitigate the disadvantages of NVMs when used for coming up with memory systems, and, in explicit, secondary storage (e.g., solid state drive) and main memory. We tend to classify these software techniques along several dimensions to spotlight their similarities and variations. Given that NVMs are growing in popularity, we have a tendency to believe that this survey will encourage more research in the sector of software technology for NVMs.
