Carrier Phase Estimation for 32-QAM Optical Systems Using Quasi-QPSK-Partitioning Algorithm

ABSTRACT:

In this letter, we propose a quasi-quadrature part shift keying (QPSK) partitioning to interchange the traditional QPSK partitioning in the primary stage of the carrier phase estimation (CPE) algorithms for thirty two-QAM optical systems. By using the proposed quasi-QPSK-partitioning methodology, the power of the CPE algorithms to trace changes of phase is greatly enhanced. For one-dB SNR penalty at bit error rate of 1E-a pair of, the proposed technique will achieve an improvement of 85% in combined linewidth image length product tolerance in comparison with the standard method for single stage. With the assistance of the fine estimation stages, the most tolerable combined linewidth symbol length product can be up to five.1E-five.
