Software-defined underwater acoustic networks: toward a high-rate real-time reconfigurable modem


We have a tendency to review and discuss the challenges of adopting software-defined radio principles in underwater acoustic networks, and propose a software-defined acoustic modem prototype based on industrial off-the-shelf elements. We have a tendency to first review current SDR-primarily based architectures for underwater acoustic communications. Then we have a tendency to describe the architecture of a new software-defined acoustic modem prototype, and give performance analysis leads to each indoor (water tank) and outside (lake) environments. We tend to gift 3 experimental testbed situations that demonstrate the important-time reconfigurable capabilities of the proposed prototype and show that it exhibits favorable characteristics toward spectrally efficient cognitive underwater networks, and high information rate underwater acoustic links. Finally, we tend to discuss open research challenges for the implementation of next-generation software-outlined underwater acoustic networks.
