A Lightweight Solution to perform Automatic Meter Reading using an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle


typically, electrical power firms use a cluster of workers known as power meter readers to gather data on the customer's energy consumption. This activity is meted out manually, that can result in errors and cause money and physical losses. There are several approaches with the aim at minimizing the aforementioned issues. These approaches propose different methodologies to get routes that are a lot of economical for the facility meter readers while performing their tasks. But, the issues associated with manual readings may occur even when the routes are additional efficient. Additionally, there are some proposals to attain the automatic meter readings using cars. But, these proposals are limited to traffic congestions and gift a high cost in terms of fuel. To beat these challenges and limitations in the literature efforts, we propose an automatic meter reading system primarily based on Unmanned Aerial Vehicles. The results show that our approach has 2 key contributions compared to alternative solutions in the literature: (i) power meter readers are no longer necessary; (ii) it reduces the time to perform the readings from the electrical meters.
