PROJECT TITLE :

A Training Tool and Methodology to Allow Concurrent Multidisciplinary Experimental Projects in Engineering Education

ABSTRACT :

This paper describes a completely unique Electrical Machine and Power Electronic Coaching Tool (EM&PETT), a technique for using it, and associated experimental instructional activities. The coaching tool is implemented by recreating an entire power electronics system, divided into modular blocks. This method is almost like that applied when analyzing a piece of industrial equipment by the functions of its varied parts. The EM&PETT is divided into 5 areas: the facility block, the electronic switch command, instrumentation, the management system, and the application setting. The training tool lets a user analyze each practical block and therefore the relationships between practical blocks; it can be used either in native or remote mode, so making certain optimal effectiveness of the proposed learning methodology. The students will redesign the hardware and software blocks before reassembling them; this allows numerous different experimental comes to be run concurrently in the same training tool. The results presented here show that EM&PETT improves engineering students' technical skills and their motivation in experimental work.
