Adaptive Rate-Limit Control for Energy Storage Systems


An adaptive energy management management with an integrated variable rate-limit function is described for an energy storage system (ESS). The proposed management protects the first power source(s) within the system as effectively as doable from sudden load transients at intervals the constraints of the offered stored energy. The management can be designed to use the accessible energy additional aggressively throughout load changes in the low- or high-power regions while giving the lowest attainable rate-of-modification of the most source power or offers a mounted minimum rate-of-change in power for a given total load and amount of energy. The management style is described in detail and demonstrated experimentally when applied to a supercapacitor ESS inside an aircraft check facility.
