PROJECT TITLE :
Hidden History: Des Jardins chronicles gender stereotyping
ABSTRACT:
Science, technology, and engineering have obviously made substantial strides within the last century, but the culture in which those accomplishments take place could not have modified a lot of in the least as a result of ingrained gender stereotypes that stem from the earliest days of when "scientist" became a profession. That's the argument made in Julie Des Jardins' book, The Madame Curie Advanced: The Hidden History of Girls in Science (The Feminist Press at CUNY, 2010) and the subject of talks she offers on the topic, regarding that she's still asked to talk over four years when the book's publication.
