An Incrementally Deployable Flow-Based Scheme for IP Traceback

ABSTRACT:

IP traceback will be used to seek out the origins and paths of attacking traffic. However, so so much, most approaches for IP traceback are arduous to be deployed within the Internet as a result of of deployment difficulties. During this paper, we have a tendency to present an incrementally deployable approach based on sampled flows for IP traceback (SampleTrace). In SampleTrace, it's not necessary to deploy any dedicated traceback software and hardware at routers, and an AS-level overlay network is made for incremental deployment. We have a tendency to theoretically analyze the quantitative relation among the probability that a flow is successfully traced back numerous AS-level hop number, independently sampling probability, and therefore the packet range that the attacking flow includes. Per Bernoulli's Law of Giant Numbers, when a large range of attacking flows are practically traced back within the Internet by SampleTrace, the successfully-traced back relative frequency will approach the successfully-traced back likelihood.
