A three-antenna technique for determining the total and radiation efficiencies of antennas in reverberation chambers

ABSTRACT:

In this paper, we discuss a 3-antenna reverberation-chamber method that enables for the determination of the antenna effi ciency. While reverberation chambers have been used in the past for determining antenna effi ciency, the previous approaches needed data of the effi ciency of a reference antenna. The approach mentioned in this paper allows one to work out the effi ciency of one or all 3 antennas, and will not need one to understand the effi ciency of any of the antennas under take a look at beforehand. The technique combines both time-domain and frequency-domain processed data, collected in reverberation-chamber experiments. Combining knowledge in these 2 domains for three sets of experiments (a group for every 2-antenna combination of the three antennas underneath check) allows for the determination of the effi ciencies of the three unknown antennas. During this paper, we tend to discuss the technique and gift experimental knowledge so as to illustrate its validity.
